Running for: U.S. House of Representatives (Colorado-5)

David Torres (Santiago David Goenaga-Torres) is running for Congress in Colorado’s 5th District. In addition to being opposed to LGBTQ and reproductive rights, the Republican incumbent in this district, Doug Lamborn, voted against certifying the 2020 presidential election and participated in a lawsuit that promoted Trump’s big lie about election fraud.

Conversely, David Torres will work to “make Colorado a national example of how a society can thrive beyond the idiocy of hate.” His policy priorities include criminal justice reform, common-sense gun violence prevention, behavioral health programs for veterans, high-speed broadband infrastructure, wind, and solar energy production and clean energy jobs, and an immigration policy that “serves as a beacon for those who are oppressed.”

This summer I had the privilege of meeting David at a charity event for homeless youth. A mutual friend of ours had messaged me and told me that David was running for Congress and is very passionate about education and mental health. He made such a huge impression on my niece that we recently looked him up to see if he still running. We were so excited to see that he is running for Congress that we reached out to him.

Tonight, my niece and I got to talk to him more about mental health and education. He drove down from Denver to discuss my nonprofit and multiple issues such as adolescent mental health. He was eager to listen to our ideas and share his ideas. He fully supports my idea of bringing therapy dogs into schools! Besides mental health and education, he supports women!

If I have learned anything about politics these last few years, it is that you should vote for the person not the party. David Torres For Congress is definitely the person I want in DC!
